Ironwood is located only 4 miles from the renowned research and teaching Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Affiliated with The Brody School of Medicine, University Health Care Systems of Eastern North Carolina represents one of the largest health-care systems in the state. Education

East Carolina University is the third largest university in the State University System.
